Biomimetics Velcro
The widely used hook and loop fastener Velcro was originally inspired by nature.

A Swiss engineer, George de Mestral, got the idea in 1941 from the burdock burrs that was sticking to his clothes and the fur of his dog.

After 10 years of development he filed a patent application in 1951. Production started a few years later and the zipperless zipper was a reality.
