Biomimetics | RoughJumper |

How can one move energy-efficiently in rough terrain? Kangaroos jump remarkably energy-efficient in quite rugged terrain. The secret lies in storing energy in elastic tendons around the muscles in the leg and reusing the energy when taking off for the next jump. The foot and the toes are shaped to maintain grip and sideways balance on a rough surface. The RoughJumper is a spring powered shoe with 3 leaf-spring toes that use the same compensation mechanism as the kangaroo. | |
