Process | Laser beam cutting |
---|---|
Laser beam cutting can be used for cutting a wide range of materials and is characterized by very low thermal distorsions. Very small holes and narrow gaps can be made.
A laser beam is a very concentrated light beam. The light is monochromatic (a single wavelength) and coherent (all the waves are in phase). It is possible to concentrate large amounts of energy within a very small area. Cutting is done by evaporating the material away. |

Medium to high cost investments (equipment). Variable cost are mainly energy and protective gas. Labour cost are low since CNC-controled automatic equipment is normally used. |
