Used for deburring angles, increasing surface reflection, reducing surface roughness and friction coefficent, removing micro-scretches (improving of fatigue resistance), increasing corrosion resistance, and as a pre-treatment for further processes.
The surface to be polished acts as anode (inverse of plating). A coating consisting of oxides or salts protects micro-valleys against dissolution, whereas micro-tops are attacked. The surface is so smoothed. Problems with very complex shapes. |
