Coating processes adds layers of
other materials on a part. Enameling adds a glass layer to the part giving a decorative surface with good corrosion properties. In ion implantation a very thin layer of a material is inserted into the part surface using an ion beam. Mechanical surface processes are carried out without chemical or electrochemical reactions, but just by applying pressure. Thermal coating is used to apply either metal or ceramic to other materials. In thermal spraying a special apparatus melts the coating material (powder or thread), which then is transferred to the substrate using pressurized air. |
